Star Wars is less a franchise than a galaxy of them. What began with George Lucas's 1977 original and its two sequels became the template for the modern blockbuster, then expanded into nearly every medium a story can occupy. The prequel trilogy charted Anakin Skywalker's fall, the sequels handed the saga to a new generation, and animated series like The Clone Wars and Rebels quietly did some of its best character work.

The games alone could fill a guide: the moral role-playing of Knights of the Old Republic, the multiplayer warfare of Battlefront, the lightsaber duels of the Jedi Knight and Jedi: Fallen Order lines, and the all-ages joy of LEGO Star Wars. Add the novels and you get a universe that rewards both the casual viewer and the obsessive lore-keeper. Nothing else in pop culture sprawls quite like it.
