The Witches are one of the central strands of Terry Pratchett's Discworld, the comic fantasy novels following Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and their coven as they defend the small kingdom of Lancre with stubbornness, common sense and very little actual spellcasting. The books here, from Equal Rites through Wyrd Sisters, Lords and Ladies and Maskerade, mix folklore and theatrical parody with Pratchett's gift for skewering power.
What sets them apart is Granny Weatherwax herself, a witch who wins by understanding people rather than by magic, and the way Pratchett uses the trio to take apart fairy tales, opera and pastoral myth.
