Rincewind

This is the Rincewind strand of Terry Pratchett's Discworld, the comic fantasy series set on a flat world carried through space on the backs of four elephants and a giant turtle. Rincewind is its most cowardly hero: an inept wizard who cannot actually do magic and whose chief skill is running away, trailed by the Luggage, a homicidal traveling chest on legs. The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic, the very first Discworld books, launched the whole series through him.

It is a books-only branch here, and a foundational one. Pratchett uses Rincewind's panic and bad luck to parody sword-and-sorcery cliches, and these early novels set the tone the larger Discworld would later refine: very funny, surprisingly humane, and always smarter than they pretend to be.
