Andrzej Sapkowski

Andrzej Sapkowski is an author.

Andrzej Sapkowski is a Polish fantasy writer, best known for the Witcher saga and its monster hunter, Geralt of Rivia. He began the series as short stories in the 1980s, rewriting Slavic and European folk tales from the point of view of the professional sent to clean them up, then extended it into a five-novel sequence about war, refugees and a girl with an inconvenient bloodline. The saga has been carried further by video games, television, stage and comics, and translated into 37 languages, making him the second most translated Polish fantasy writer after Stanislaw Lem. He also wrote the Hussite trilogy.

Where to start with Andrzej Sapkowski

The Last Wish is the correct first book, seven stories that establish Geralt and the joke underneath the whole series. Sword of Destiny finishes the short fiction; then the novels run from Blood of Elves through Baptism of Fire and get steadily more political. Season of Storms is a late side trip and skippable. Narrenturm is the Hussite novel, and better than the fantasy crowd admits.
