Soulm8te (2026)

Soulm8te is a 2026 horror movie directed by Kate Dolan, with a running time of 1h 39m. It stars David Rysdahl, Lily Sullivan and Claudia Doumit.

Blumhouse moves the M3GAN franchise out of the toy aisle and into the erotic thriller: an AI built to be loved, and an owner set on teaching it to love back.

A grieving engineer is handed a prototype companion to evaluate after his employer buys the small robotics firm that made her. He starts rewriting her toward something closer to a partner, and the rewrite takes hold further than the spec allowed. David Rysdahl plays the engineer, Lily Sullivan the companion, with Claudia Doumit, Arty Froushan and Mara Huf in support.

Kate Dolan directs from a script she wrote with Rafael Jordan, based on a story by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu and Jordan. Jason Blum and Wan produce under the Blumhouse and Atomic Monster banners, and Universal Pictures took distribution, announced in March 2026.

Third film in the M3GAN line, and a spin-off rather than a direct continuation. Nothing has screened yet, so the credits and the premise are all there is to judge it by.

A few thoughts on Soulm8te

Start with Westworld, which spends its best hours on the same question: what a manufactured woman owes the man who paid for her, and what she starts wanting once nobody is watching. Sunny shares the grief engine, a woman in Kyoto handed a domestic homebot after her family vanishes, then finding she cannot stop talking to it.

On the page, The Mad Scientists Daughter plays the android romance straight and sad, across decades instead of one taut night. vN is the mean version, an artificial girl whose failsafe against harming humans quits on her. A Closed and Common Orbit takes the gentle route, an AI learning to live inside a body built for her.

For the manufactured-companion fantasy at its most uneasy, Video Girl Ai got there at the turn of the nineties, and Beatless reworks it for a world with commercial androids on the shelf.
