Despite early contributions that were later scrapped, it marked the departure of Terry Date, who had produced the band's first four albums. It was also the last Deftones album to feature bassist Chi Cheng after he was involved in a serious car accident in 2008, which put him in a coma and led to his eventual death five years later due to cardiac arrest. It is also their last to be released through Maverick.
