MobLand (2025)
MobLand is a 2025 crime series created by Ronan Bennett. It stars Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Paddy Considine.
The Harrigans keep a man for the calls that come in at three in the morning. MobLand is his shift.
Tom Hardy plays Harry Da Souza, fixer to a London crime family run by Conrad and Maeve Harrigan. The series weighs him against both sides of that arrangement: the household that pays him, and the trouble it hands him. Paddy Considine plays Kevin Harrigan, son of Conrad and Maeve, and Harry's working partner of many years. A second family wants the same ground, and the two houses grind against each other across ten episodes.
Ronan Bennett created the show for Paramount+ and wrote the entire first season with Jez Butterworth, which keeps the register verbal. People negotiate, flatter and threaten in the same breath, and a scene tends to turn on what someone chooses not to say. Guy Ritchie, Anthony Byrne, Daniel Syrkin and Lawrence Gough split the directing. Pierce Brosnan, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver and Anson Boon fill out the two households.
Come for Hardy in low gear, watchful, doing the family's arithmetic in his head. Stay for the two-hander scenes with Considine, where a partnership built on years of shared work has to survive the fact that one man is family and the other is staff. Contemporary British gangster television with old dynastic bones, played closer to a family business under audit than a street war.

A few thoughts on MobLand
Start with Mario Puzo's The Godfather. The novel set the template for a crime family run as a firm, succession argued at the kitchen table and enforcement handled elsewhere, and Harry's position rhymes with the consigliere's: total access, no blood claim.
For the business rather than the bloodline, Roberto Saviano's ZeroZeroZero follows the cocaine trade as global logistics, the economics a family like the Harrigans lives inside. John le Carre's The Night Manager covers the other half of Harry's job, one careful man embedded in a criminal operation and keeping his footing.
In comics, Ed Brubaker's Criminal treats noir as an inherited trade, sons stuck with their fathers' professions. On film, Love, Honour and Obey and The Guvnors handle the London end, and Max Payne turns a mob-family war into something you play.
London gangland series to watch next
MobLand keeps its war local: two London houses fighting over the same ground, in the same accents, on the same streets. These series work that map too. Firms, families, turf, and a city where everyone knows the name on the door. Gangs of London matches the Harrigan pressure at full volume.
Stories about the fixer who cleans up for the boss
Harry Da Souza takes the three in the morning calls so the Harrigans do not have to. Each title here follows someone who carries another person's trouble for a living, with a badge that is real, borrowed or bought. Tom Hardy plays Harry quiet. These operators run louder and answer the same phone.
Crime family novels to read after the show
Ronan Bennett wrote all ten MobLand episodes himself, and the show moves like a novel about a family business that keeps bodies in the ledger. These books do that work on the page. Start with Puzo, then the reportage titles that show the real firms standing behind the fiction.
Crime dynasties where the family outranks the rivals
Conrad and Maeve Harrigan hold the house together and hand Harry most of his problems. These series put the same weight on parents, heirs and the question of who takes the chair next. Sons of Anarchy and Animal Kingdom both run on an elder whose approval costs more than any rival does.
