Beauty in Black (2024)

Beauty in Black is a 2024 drama series created by Tyler Perry. It stars Taylor Polidore, Crystle Stewart and Amber Reign Smith.

Two women in the same city, one inside a cosmetics fortune, one working a club floor for rent money. Tyler Perry created the series, directs it and produces it, and he works here in his soap register: short scenes, blunt confrontations, money and family pulling against each other in every room.

Crystle Stewart and Taylor Polidore Williams play the two leads, women whose lives share nothing until the family cosmetics business, and the trafficking scheme running behind the brand, keeps putting them in the same rooms. Amber Reign Smith, Xavier Smalls, Julian Horton and Steven G. Norfleet round out the cast. The drama stays at street level on one side and inside boardrooms and bedrooms on the other, and Perry cuts between the two often enough that neither world gets to feel safe.

Netflix has released it in halves. Season one arrived in October 2024 with its back half in March 2025, and season two followed the same pattern in September 2025 and March 2026. A third season, ordered in December 2025, will be the last. The split suits a show that ends most stretches on a hook.

This is built for viewers who want plot delivered fast and feeling delivered loud, and it handles a grim subject without going coy about it. Start here if you want Perry in his darker key rather than his lighter comic work.

A few thoughts on Beauty in Black

Perry's own films sit closest. Mea Culpa runs a similar engine at feature length, a wealthy family closing ranks around a criminal case while a woman on the outside keeps pulling at the thread. A Jazzman's Blues shows his other mode, a period drama where the melodrama is played for ache instead of shock, and it is the better film of the two. Good Deeds covers the inherited family company from the heir's side, useful counterweight to a series that mostly watches the dynasty from below. For the club floor itself, Hustlers treats dancers as workers with a plan and a ledger, a colder and funnier angle on the same economics.

More Tyler Perry soaps with the same pace

Perry created Beauty in Black, directs it and produces it, and the series runs in his television register: short scenes, blunt confrontations, a family argument reopened every other week. His other shows and films pull the same levers at the same speed, so the pace that hooks you here carries straight across the rest of them.

Rich-family dramas where the money has strings attached

The cosmetics fortune drives Beauty in Black harder than any of its characters do, with inheritance, board seats and the scheme running behind the brand forcing people into the same rooms. These series put wealthy households under the same pressure, where a surname works as a job title and nobody states the conditions on the money out loud.

Women working a hustle for rent money

Taylor Polidore Williams plays a woman working a club floor to cover rent, and Beauty in Black treats that as a job with hours and arithmetic rather than as set dressing. These films and series follow women doing the same maths, weighing a night's earnings against the cost, then choosing how far into somebody else's scheme to walk.

Makeup and hair as a way up, in books and comics

The beauty empire in Beauty in Black draws on a real lineage of Black cosmetics fortunes built on products the big companies skipped. Madam C.J. Walker built the first of them, and the books and comics here cover the same territory from other angles, including two in which a talent with hair and makeup rewrites where a girl stands.
