AMC television universe

This is the television side of The Walking Dead, the sprawl of shows AMC grew out of its original 2010 zombie drama. The flagship followed sheriff's deputy Rick Grimes waking from a coma into a collapsed world, and its success seeded a whole franchise: a companion series in Los Angeles (Fear the Walking Dead), location swaps (Dead City in Manhattan, Daryl Dixon in France), character send-offs (The Ones Who Live), a younger-skewing spin-off (World Beyond), and an anthology (Tales of the Walking Dead).

What holds it together is less the walkers than the people. Each branch keeps the original's interest in how survivors organize, fracture, and turn on one another once the dead stop being the main threat. The spread is entirely television, eight series here, and the model has proved unusually durable: when one show ends, the universe simply migrates its characters into the next.
