The Elder Scrolls is Bethesda's long-running first-person fantasy role-playing series, and these are its core single-player entries. The line runs from 1994's Arena and 1996's Daggerfall, with their sprawling worlds, through the more hand-built provinces of Morrowind in 2002 and Oblivion in 2006, to Skyrim in 2011, the entry that turned the series into a mainstream phenomenon.
The constant across every game is freedom of approach. You are dropped into the continent of Tamriel and largely left to decide who to be and where to go, with the main quest free to sit untouched while you wander. That open structure has aged unevenly: the earliest games feel archaic now, while Skyrim has proven durable enough to keep getting reissued, including the 2017 VR edition. This is a games-only series, and its influence is felt mostly through other studios chasing the same sense of a world you can simply walk into.
The Mainline single-player series franchise spans 6 games in the CrossBinge catalog.
