Nymphomaniac

Nymphomaniac is Lars von Trier's film told across two volumes, framed as a woman named Joe recounting her sexual history to the stranger who finds her beaten in an alley and takes her in. What begins as confession unfolds across decades, from her teenage experiments to the darker turns of her adult life.

It is a movies-only work, more provocation and conversation than plot, structured as a long dialogue between Joe's blunt self-accounting and her listener's digressions. The two volumes split a single story rather than telling separate ones, with the second pushing into bleaker territory than the first.
