3D era

This is Mortal Kombat's 3D era, the stretch when the long-running fighting series left its 2D plane behind. The trilogy here, Deadly Alliance in 2002, Deception in 2004 and Armageddon in 2006, rebuilt the fights in full 3D with new engines and interactive arenas.

This period was defined by experimentation and a swelling roster: Armageddon famously crammed in dozens of returning characters, while Deception layered in expanded story and side modes. It is generally seen as a transitional, uneven chapter before the franchise rebooted back toward its 2D-plane roots. A games-only set, valuable as the record of Mortal Kombat trying to reinvent itself in three dimensions, for better and worse.

The 3D era franchise spans 3 games in the CrossBinge catalog.
