Wario Land is the platforming series that spun Mario's greedy rival off into his own games. Beginning as Super Mario Land 3 on the Game Boy, it quickly found a distinct identity: where Mario runs and jumps to rescue others, Wario barges through levels smashing blocks and hoarding coins for himself, often turned temporarily invincible or transformed by the hazards around him.
The later handheld entries leaned into that contrast with puzzle-like, near-indestructible-hero design, where the challenge is collecting treasure rather than avoiding death. It is a games-only offshoot of Mario, smaller and stranger than its parent, and proud of its antihero's bad attitude.
