This covers Grand Theft Auto's HD era, the games Rockstar built from Grand Theft Auto IV onward on a more grounded, cinematic engine. IV (2008) took the series to a moodier Liberty City, its expansions The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony adding new protagonists, before Grand Theft Auto V (2013) and its long-lived online mode turned Los Santos into one of the best-selling games of its era.
