The Ash Williams Films & Series

This is the Ash Williams strand of Evil Dead, Sam Raimi's horror franchise and the films that made Bruce Campbell a cult hero. It starts with the 1979 proof-of-concept short Within the Woods, runs through the original The Evil Dead (1981) and the manic Evil Dead II (1987), swerves into medieval comedy with Army of Darkness (1992), and returns decades later in the television series Ash vs Evil Dead (2015).

The set spans film and TV, and the throughline is tone: a cabin, the Book of the Dead, and a wisecracking everyman with a chainsaw for a hand. What began as straight grindhouse horror steadily warped into splatter comedy, with Ash himself, vain, cowardly and weirdly heroic, holding the whole thing together across formats.
