This is the Neverwinter Nights line, a corner of the Dungeons & Dragons games set in the Forgotten Realms. BioWare's 2002 original was as much a toolset as a game, shipping with tools that let players build and host their own adventures alongside the official campaign and its expansions, Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark. Obsidian's Neverwinter Nights 2 and its Mask of the Betrayer expansion deepened the storytelling, and the later free-to-play Neverwinter took the name into the MMO space.
The throughline is faithful translation of tabletop role-playing into software, with rules, parties, and branching choices drawn straight from Dungeons & Dragons.
