The Prometheus Prequels

These are the Prometheus prequels to Alien, Ridley Scott's return to the saga to ask where the creatures, and humanity, came from. Prometheus (2012) sends explorers chasing a clue to mankind's origins into the dark corners of the galaxy, and Alien: Covenant (2017) follows a colony ship that mistakes a hostile world for paradise. The tie-in novel Covenant Origins fills in the corporate ambition behind the doomed mission.

The set spans film and book, and the throughline is creation turned monstrous: these stories trade the original's claustrophobic survival horror for bigger, bleaker questions about who made us and what they made alongside us. The answers are grim, which is the point. Curiosity here is rarely rewarded, and the universe gets colder the more it explains itself.
