Yrsa Sigurdardottir is an author.
Vilborg Yrsa Sigurdardottir is an Icelandic writer of both crime novels and children's fiction who has been publishing since 1998. She won the Icelandic Children's Book Prize in 2003 for Biobjorn, and her first crime novel was translated into English by Bernard Scudder. The central character of her early crime books is Thora Gudmundsdottir, a Reykjavik lawyer, and the series uses Icelandic legal and institutional detail in a way few translated crime novels bother with. She also writes standalone horror, which is where her reputation among readers who avoid crime fiction comes from.

The sensible entry point is Last rituals, which starts the Thora Gudmundsdottir series: a lawyer and a German researcher looking into a very unpleasant piece of academic history. I remember you is the standalone ghost story and the best thing she has written, genuinely frightening in an empty fjord village. Of the later Children's House books, DNA is the strongest. The Silence of the Sea is the one with the empty yacht.
