Yogi Babu
Yogi Babu is an actor, born 1985.
Yogi Babu started in 2009 in parts too small to notice and stayed in them for years. The turn came with Kalakalappu and Maan Karate, after which Tamil cinema decided it needed him in everything, and the volume since has been extraordinary. He is now counted among the highest paid comedians in the industry, with two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and five SIIMA Awards.
The commercial job is precise. In the big star vehicles, Mersal, Sarkar, Viswasam, Bigil, Darbar, Beast, Varisu, Jailer, Kanguva, The Greatest of All Time, and in Chennai Express and Jawan, which reached far past Tamil audiences, he arrives for a few scenes, punctures the hero's gravity, and leaves before the deflation costs the film anything. That is a real skill: an industry built on star worship needs somebody licensed to be unimpressed.
The stronger argument for him is the other track. Soodhu Kavvum and Aandavan Kattalai used him in ensemble comedy with actual writing behind it. Karnan gave him Vadamaalaiyan in a furious village drama; Kadaisi Vivasayi cast him as an elephant mahout in one of the quietest Tamil films of recent years; Boat put him in the lead. He is a comedian who keeps being handed drama and keeps not fumbling it.

Where to start with Yogi Babu
Karnan is where I would start, and deliberately not with a comedy: Vadamaalaiyan is a straight dramatic part in an angry village film, and it settles the question of whether he can act before you ever watch him being funny.
Then Kadaisi Vivasayi, a slow, beautiful film where he plays an elephant mahout and does almost nothing showy, and Boat, the recent lead role. Those three make the case for taking him seriously.
For the popular register, Soodhu Kavvum is the smartest comedy on the list and the place his early timing shows. Mersal and Jailer are the star vehicles that use him best, Comali is the broad crowd-pleaser, and Aandavan Kattalai gives the most human version of his usual character. Do not judge him by the cameos: half of them ask for two minutes and nothing more.
