Won Bin
Won Bin, born Kim Do-jin, became famous on television in 2000, in the melodrama Autumn in My Heart, and then spent the following decade making almost nothing. Five films in total: Guns & Talks in 2001, Taegukgi and My Brother in 2004, Mother in 2009, The Man from Nowhere in 2010. That is the career, and the scarcity is not accidental.
What the films show is an actor steadily moving away from the face that made him famous. Taegukgi cast him as the younger brother dragged through the Korean War, a role built almost entirely on deterioration. Mother asked him to play a young man whose limitations the audience has to read through his mother's refusal to see them, a very hard piece of underplaying in a film that could easily have turned maudlin. The Man from Nowhere then took the beauty everyone had been discussing and used it as a weapon, in a lean, brutally efficient action film that became one of the biggest Korean releases of its year.
He was Gallup Korea's Film Actor of the Year in 2010 and in 2011, on the strength of a single film, which says something about how the Korean industry held him. Nothing among these credits is dated after 2010.

Where to start with Won Bin
Come in through The Man from Nowhere, which needs no context at all: a former operative living quietly, a child in danger, and a film that moves with real economy. It is also the clearest demonstration of what he does with stillness, and stillness is most of his acting.
Mother is the better film and the harder watch, a small-town story about how far a parent will go, with Won Bin playing the son as a young man who cannot be relied on to explain himself. Watch it second.
Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War is the epic, worth it for the transformation across the war years. My Brother is the sentimental family drama and Guns & Talks the light early comedy, while Autumn in My Heart is the melodrama that made him a star and now plays as a period piece of its own genre, which is a fine reason to try an episode.
