Wally Wingert

Wingert came to voice acting from radio, and the DJ years show. He has the trained announcer's control over pitch and pace, which is why he can be cast as a cackling villain in the morning and a sighing everyman in the afternoon without either one sounding like a stunt.

The resume splits neatly down that line. On the high, delighted, slightly unhinged end: Almighty Tallest Red in Invader Zim, the Riddler in the Batman Arkham games and in two animated Batman features, King Tut, Cubot in the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons. On the flat, put-upon, human end: Jon Arbuckle across The Garfield Show and a run of Garfield films, where the whole job is to sound like the least remarkable man alive while a cat runs his household. Between the two sit Renji Abarai in Bleach, Kotetsu Kaburagi in Tiger and Bunny, Psycho Blue in Power Rangers In Space, Hank Pym in The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and Principal Sloan on Family Guy.

He has also spent years as the voice of a retail chain's advertising, which is the honest reality of the profession and worth saying out loud: the working American voice actor earns a living across cartoons, games, features and commercials at once, and the anonymity is the point. Wingert has been in the room for the Nickelodeon era, the Cartoon Network era, the Marvel animation era and the modern game-casting era, and very few viewers have ever registered his name.
