Read a child actor's early credits and you mostly get functions rather than people. Vivien Lyra Blair's first stretch is exactly that: Girl, Young Ellen, Little Eleanor Roosevelt. She debuted in Band Aid in 2017 and was carrying real weight the year after in Bird Box, where her character is credited as Girl and named Olympia only later. Waco arrived in the same period, and in 2019 she turned up in the video game Telling Lies, which is not among the credits listed here.
Everything changed in 2022, when she played a young Leia Organa in Obi-Wan Kenobi. The part came pre-loaded with decades of audience memory, the sort of assignment that usually flattens whoever takes it, and she drew critical praise instead. It remains the performance the rest of her work gets measured against.
What she has done since looks like a career rather than a moment. Sawyer in the horror film The Boogeyman, Guppy in We Can Be Heroes, Emily in Dear Zoe, Billie in Goodrich, plus television in The First Lady, Fatal Attraction and Indebted. Where to start with Vivien Lyra Blair
Go to Obi-Wan Kenobi first, and not out of Star Wars loyalty. It is the clearest demonstration of what she can do, because the series hands her a character the audience already has enormous feelings about and then asks her to be a specific, difficult, entirely present child rather than an icon in miniature. She holds it.
Bird Box is the better film and the harder watch, and it shows how much of the tension a director could hang on her before she was anywhere near famous. The Boogeyman is straight genre work and useful mostly for seeing her operate in a register built on fear.
For the lighter end, We Can Be Heroes is unashamed children's cinema and she is good fun in it, while Goodrich and Band Aid put her in adult company. Skip The First Lady unless you want completeness.
