Tyson Beckford was born in the Bronx in 1970, is Jamaican-American, and became famous through the Ralph Lauren Polo campaigns. The reason his name carries is structural rather than sentimental: he is one of very few male models who got the kind of contract and public profile that the 1990s handed almost exclusively to women. He later hosted both seasons of Bravo's Make Me a Supermodel.
