SUGA

SUGA is an actor, born 1993.

Min Yoon-gi came out of Daegu and works under two names. As Suga he is part of the rap line in BTS, in the group since its June 2013 debut under Big Hit Entertainment. As Agust D he is a solo rapper and producer with a harder, more autobiographical register.

The Agust D mixtape arrived in 2016 and was re-released in 2018 for download and streaming, reaching number three on Billboard's World Albums chart. D-2 followed in 2020 and travelled considerably further: number 11 on the US Billboard 200, number seven on the UK Albums Chart, number two in Australia. D-Day, his first studio album proper, came in 2023.

Everything gathered on this page is documentary or variety. He is on camera constantly and performing only some of the time: tour films, backstage docs, the talk format SUCHWITA, the group's long-running variety show, the slow retreat series In the SOOP. It suits him. On a stage he is giving a performance decided in advance; in the documentaries he mostly declines to perform, and that is where the more interesting footage of him lives.

Where to start with SUGA

Watch the documentaries before the concert films. Break the Silence: The Movie and Bring the Soul: The Movie both give him room to talk, and talking is where he is most legible.

SUCHWITA is the pick if you only have time for one thing. It is a talk format, long and unhurried, and it does more for understanding him than any amount of stadium footage.

For group context, Burn the Stage: The Movie is the honest one about what the touring costs, and BTS World Tour: Love Yourself in Seoul is the show at full size, which is worth seeing precisely because it is the opposite of SUCHWITA. BTS In the SOOP is the low-gear setting, and Run BTS! is the format that most rewards a dry sense of humour.
