Steven R. McQueen is an actor, born 1988.
From 2009 to 2015, and again in 2017, Steven R. McQueen was Jeremy Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries. Six years inside a supernatural teen drama is long enough for a role to stop being a job and start being a career, with everything good and bad that implies.
Before that he was doing what young Los Angeles actors do. A recurring part on Everwood as Kyle Hunter, a Disney Channel feature in Minutemen, and the lead in Piranha 3D, a film with no ambitions beyond precisely what its title promises and a good deal more fun for it.
Leaving a teen genre series is a hard exit, and his was into procedural television: he joined Chicago Fire as Jimmy Borelli in 2015 and crossed over into Chicago P.D. the following year. He also returned to the Vampire Diaries universe through its spin-off in 2018, a credit not among those listed here.
Since then the work has been sparser and more varied. He played Joseph Vittori in the dramatised military anthology Medal of Honor, and took a lead in the western The Warrant. That is a fairly typical post-network trajectory, and the westerns and anthology work suggest an actor looking for parts with a bit of weather in them rather than another ensemble slot.

Where to start with Steven R. McQueen
The Vampire Diaries is unavoidable and correct: it is the role, and six years of it means the performance visibly matures across the run, which is more than can be said for a lot of teen-drama casts.
Piranha 3D is the one to watch for pleasure. It is knowingly ridiculous, expensively staged, and he plays the straight man at the centre of it perfectly well, which is harder than it looks.
Everwood shows the early recurring work in a much better-written show than its reputation suggests.
Then Chicago Fire for the network procedural version, Medal of Honor for the most serious thing on the list, and The Warrant if you want the low-budget western where he carries the picture rather than supports it.
