Sharon Duncan-Brewster
Sharon Duncan-Brewster is an actor, born 1976.
Sharon Duncan-Brewster spent well over a decade as a fixture of British television before international casting caught up. Born in London in 1976, she played Crystal Gordon across the first four series of the prison drama Bad Girls between 1999 and 2002, joined EastEnders as Trina Johnson in 2009, appeared the same year as Maggie Cain in the Doctor Who special The Waters of Mars, and turned up in Top Boy in 2011.
Her register is authority with no interest in being liked. She plays people who decided something before the scene began and are not going to relitigate it, which is why Dune uses her so well. Dr. Liet Kynes is the imperial ecologist on Arrakis, sizing up an incoming family, and Duncan-Brewster plays the judgment as settled rather than pending.
The genre roles have accumulated since. She is Senator Pamlo in Rogue One, Mira Troy in Enola Holmes 2, a part her biography describes as a version of Professor Moriarty and which the sequel due in 2026 credits simply as Moriarty, and she has roles in Ballerina and the ocean thriller The Swarm.
The British work stayed better than the franchises. Fran Baxter in Years and Years, Roz Marchetti in Sex Education, Maureen in Cucumber and Monica in Earth Mama are all sharper writing than a Star Wars senator gets, and Washington Black added another in 2025.

Where to start with Sharon Duncan-Brewster
For the shortest route to why she gets cast, take Dune: Liet-Kynes has to represent an entire planet's politics without ever being handed a speech about it, and Duncan-Brewster does it by refusing to explain herself.
Then go to the British television, which has given her more to do. Years and Years is the strongest of it, a family drama that keeps escalating around her. Top Boy and Bad Girls are the earlier proof, the second a long stretch in a prison series that let her build something across four series.
Sex Education shows the warmer end, Enola Holmes 2 is the most fun she has been allowed to have on film, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is there for completeness rather than pleasure, a senator with very little to do.
