Selena Quintanilla
Selena Quintanilla-Perez was singing in her family's band in Texas from the age of nine and became the biggest star Tejano music has produced, a genre that had almost no women in it when she started. She won a Grammy in 1994, designed and sold her own clothing line, and was recording her first English-language crossover album when she was killed in 1995, at twenty three. Her influence on Latin pop has only grown since.
