Kentaro Miura drew Berserk for thirty-two years and did not finish it. The art is the reason: page after page of impossibly dense linework, armies rendered figure by individual figure, at a level of detail that damaged his output rate and probably his health. The story underneath is a revenge narrative that keeps expanding into cosmology. He was fifty-four in 2021, and a childhood friend now continues the series from his notes.

Where to start with Kentaro Miura
The catalogue holds scattered volumes rather than the full run, so the numbering matters. Berserk, Vol. 17 and Berserk, Vol. 20 sit inside the Conviction arc, which is where the series turns from revenge into something much larger. Berserk, Vol. 21, Berserk, Vol. 22 and Berserk, Vol. 25 continue it. Berserk, Vol. 30 and Berserk, Vol. 37 come from the long sea voyage of the later years.
