Their career arrived in one jump. Before Stranger Things there was a horror film, Hidden, released in 2015, and a writing stint on the Fox series Wayward Pines. After it came a run from 2016 to 2025 as creators and showrunners of one of Netflix's biggest original series, plus a stage production documented in Behind the Curtain, and a company, Upside Down Pictures, tied to Netflix by an overall deal.
The interesting question about the Duffers is whether the nostalgia is a crutch or the craft. The honest answer is both. Stranger Things reproduces the texture of 1980s genre film with real precision, and the casting of its child actors is the part nobody credits enough, because it was the hardest thing in the show and the thing that would have sunk it. Where the writing thins out, in the middle seasons, those performances carry it anyway. Ross also appears as a voice in Predator: Badlands in 2025, alongside his brother, playing a ship's computer.

Take Stranger Things as given and treat the rest of this page as what to do afterwards. If you have finished the series and want more of the sensibility, Hidden is the one to find: a lean horror feature made before the money arrived, and the clearest look at how the brothers stage tension when they cannot buy their way out of a scene.
One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5 and Behind the Curtain: Stranger Things: The First Shadow are for people who want the production story, the first on the concluding season and the second on the stage show. Beyond Stranger Things is the lightest of the three and gives away the most for anyone still watching. James Cameron's Story of Science Fiction is the only appearance where they are asked about somebody else's work, and it is the better interview for it.
