Rene Gube

Rene Gube is an actor, born 1979.

Gube's acting credits undersell him, because most of his weight in a production sits behind the camera. He was executive story editor and a writer on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, where he also turned up on screen as Father Brah, the priest who hands out advice while being noticeably more relaxed than anyone asking for it. On The Bear he is an executive producer and writer as well as a guest performer, credited on screen as Ever GM.

As an actor he came up through sitcoms. Mike Wen, nicknamed Threepeat, on Ground Floor was the first regular part, followed by Parker in Undateable, Braylen in Camping and a postman on Growing Up Fisher. The film work is compact and mostly comic: a cell-mate in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, Sidney in Your Place or Mine, Officer Sully in The Prank, Ben in Pickled Herring.

He is a comedian first, which shows in how little he pushes. Father Brah works because Gube plays him as the calmest person in a very loud show, and the same restraint is why his one-scene film parts land at all.

Where to start with Rene Gube

Father Brah first. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend gave him a recurring part that could easily have been a single joke, and he plays it as the one adult in the series with no agenda. He was writing on the show as well, which is why the character sits in that world so exactly.

The Bear comes next, though be clear about what you are looking for. He is an executive producer and writer there and appears on screen only briefly, credited as Ever GM.

For the acting on its own terms, Ground Floor gave him his first regular role as Threepeat, Undateable and Camping are the supporting sitcom work, and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World has him in a single scene as a cell-mate, which is exactly the size of part he can make land.
