Ralph Ineson
Ralph Ineson is an actor, born 1969.
For most of the 1990s and 2000s Ralph Ineson was a working British television actor, known at home as Chris Finch, the sales rep in The Office who is simultaneously the funniest and the worst person in the building. It was a living and a dead end, for a man whose main asset is a voice like a quarry: deep, Yorkshire, and able to make an ordinary line of dialogue sound like a sentence being passed.
Robert Eggers is the reason a second career exists. Casting Ineson as William in The Witch set that voice against dialogue written in seventeenth-century English, and it works because he plays the father as proud, incompetent and frightened rather than as a horror archetype. Eggers used him again in The Northman, and David Lowery built the title role of The Green Knight around the same instrument.
The last decade has been a run of grim authority and prestige monsters: a general in Chernobyl, the doctor in Nosferatu, Professor Krempe in Frankenstein, and Galactus in The Fantastic 4: First Steps, a part that amounts to a voice with a planet attached. He narrates constantly and does substantial video game work, including Charles Vane in Assassin's Creed IV, Lorath Nahr in Diablo IV and Cid in Final Fantasy XVI. He is in his fifties and busier than he has ever been, which is not the usual shape of a character actor's career.

Where to start with Ralph Ineson
The Witch reclassified him, and his William is the reason a slow folk horror about crop failure holds together at all. Watch that first.
Follow it with The Green Knight, where the voice is the special effect, and The Northman for the Eggers reunion, though his part there is smaller than the billing suggests. Nosferatu completes the set.
Then go backwards to The Office for the shock of hearing that voice used entirely for comedy, and to Chernobyl, where he plays a Soviet general with about four scenes and total authority. The First Omen is the pick of the recent horror if you want more of that register.
The Fantastic 4: First Steps is the biggest thing on his resume and the least revealing, since most of the performance arrives through a wall of visual effects.
The folk horror
Robert Eggers cast him as a Puritan father losing everything and the career reorganised itself around that voice. The Green Knight and Nosferatu continue the same line of work.
The British television
Chris Finch in the original Office is the credit British viewers will know first, and it is a very different use of the same voice. Chernobyl and The Capture are the serious recent drama.
The blockbusters
Three Harry Potter films, a Kingsman, a Spielberg and now Galactus, which is about as large as a supporting part gets. He is generally the most physically imposing thing in the frame.
The voice work
The voice is the asset and animation has finally noticed. The Dark Crystal and Vox Machina are the two worth hearing, and the Discworld adaptation casts him as a troll.
