Misaki Watada

Misaki Watada works out of Aoni Production, one of the long-established Japanese voice agencies, and her filmography reads like a long apprenticeship that quietly became a solid mid-tier career.

The early credit that matters is Michiru in Hell Girl, a horror anthology built on a rigid formula (somebody is wronged, somebody makes a bargain) where the recurring cast has to carry the mood between cases. Since then she has become the actress producers call when a role needs to sound genuinely young without turning cute: Yaeka Sakuragi in The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting, a small girl whose flat refusal to react is the entire joke, and Futari Gotoh in Bocchi the Rock!, the mother whose deadpan grounds a show that is otherwise a nervous breakdown set to indie rock.

Her most conspicuous job is Hikari Yagami in the 2020 Digimon Adventure: reboot, which means taking on a role that a generation of viewers has memorised in another voice. That is a thankless assignment and she took it. Running alongside is the franchise work that keeps a voice actress employed: Meisho Doto across the Umamusume series, films and shorts, Delmin in Show by Rock!!, Rinrin Shinomiya in Himitsu no AiPri, Glenda in Strike the Blood. It is a career built on being reliable inside ensembles rather than on headline leads, and there is far more of it than the highlight list suggests.
