If you have watched Canadian television at any point in the last twenty-five years you have watched Michelle Nolden, probably without registering it, which is a compliment about a particular kind of craft. She was born in Brantford, Ontario in 1973 and has worked more or less continuously since the late nineties across Earth: Final Conflict, Street Time, Republic of Doyle, Murdoch Mysteries, Saving Hope, Burden of Truth, Northern Rescue and Hudson and Rex. She has been nominated for both an ACTRA Award and a Gemini.
The specific skill is instant credibility. A production with three scenes in which to establish a surgeon, a president or a mother hires Nolden because she arrives already carrying the authority and does not need the script to explain it to anyone. Where to start with Michelle Nolden
Pick a series rather than a film. Saving Hope gives her the most to do over the longest stretch, and Dr. Dawn Bell is a good demonstration of how she plays competence: brisk, unimpressed, faintly amused by everyone else's drama.
For genre, October Faction and Impulse are the better of the recent run, and Nikita casts her as the President of the United States, which is precisely the three-scene authority she keeps getting hired for.
On film, The Time Traveler's Wife is the widest-seen thing she is in, RED the most purely enjoyable, and Haunter the one to seek out: a small, strange, well-made ghost story that almost nobody caught. A Christmas Horror Story is the seasonal curiosity for anyone who likes their holidays with an anthology structure.
