Marshall R. Teague

Black belts in Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do are not trivia on this particular page. Teague was born in Newport, Tennessee in 1953 and trained in Korean martial arts from childhood, and that training is the reason the career took the shape it did.

Road House (1989) is the credit people know. As Jimmy he is the physical opposition in a film whose reputation rests almost entirely on its fights, and he could genuinely do the work, which was not universally true of screen heavies at the time.

Afterwards Hollywood put him in uniform and mostly left him there. Read the character list and it reads like a personnel roster: Colonel Davis in Armageddon, Seal Reigert in The Rock, Doug Daniels in Fire Birds, General Kronus on Sliders, Major Nathan Donner, Major Don Harding, Colonel Crane, a lieutenant in The Shadow Riders, a senator in Hell on the Border. He plays competence and chain of command, and he plays both without vanity, which is rarer than it sounds in action casting.

The later run is Westerns and direct-to-video action, including Snake Corville in Crossfire Trail (2001), Monte Walsh (2003) and Hell on the Border (2019). The Westerns suit him better than the modern military work ever did, because a Western will let a supporting man be tired, and the military pictures almost never do.
