Maria Menounos

Maria Menounos is an actor, born 1978.

Read this filmography as a broadcaster's, because that is what it is. Menounos has hosted Extra and E! News, reported for Today and Access Hollywood, and co-hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens in 2006. She then did the thing most on-camera talent never does, which is build the business rather than just appear in it: she co-created AfterBuzz TV and is its chief executive, hosted a podcast under her own name, and co-hosted the Miss Universe pageant in 2023.

The acting credits are mostly cameos where she plays herself, in Tropic Thunder (2008), The Pentaverate (2022) and a WrestleMania broadcast. The exceptions are small character parts: a nurse in Fantastic Four (2005), Jennifer in Kickin' It Old Skool (2007), Dr. Luni in Paranormal Movie (2013). As a filmography that is thin, and pretending otherwise would be silly.

The WWE line is the genuinely unusual one. She has been a WWE ambassador since 2013 and has competed as a pro in tag team matches since 2009, and our records place her on the WrestleMania XXVIII broadcast in 2012. Hosting Botched from 2014 is the more typical use of her, and she is very good at it: a presenter who keeps a segment moving without ever making it about herself.

Where to start with Maria Menounos

Skip the film credits and start with the broadcasting. Botched is the best sustained example of the hosting: a format that would be tacky in less careful hands, kept watchable by someone who neither flinches nor gawps. Then WWE WrestleMania XXVIII, the strangest entry on the page and worth seeing because it is a television host stepping all the way into somebody else's format. Tropic Thunder is the funniest use of her, a brief red-carpet self-parody in a film full of them. The Pentaverate runs the same joke at greater length. Extra and Access Hollywood are the day job, and the day job is where the actual career lives.
