Luke Thompson, born in Southampton in 1988, has five credits in this catalogue, and the work that earned him a Laurence Olivier Award nomination in 2024, the stage adaptation of A Little Life, is not among them because it was never filmed. Television found him first, in the BBC drama In the Club and then Kiss Me First, and film used him the way film uses trained British theatre actors: a warrant officer in Dunkirk, the young politician Peter Hain in Misbehaviour, Harry Bingham in Transatlantic.
Bridgerton changed the scale. Benedict is the second brother, which in that series means the one with time on his hands and few plot obligations, and Thompson has used the slack well. He plays a man who is charming in a way he has never had to work for, which is harder to do than it looks and much less rewarded than the parts with speeches in them.
That is roughly the state of things: a theatre actor with one very large television job, a handful of respectable film credits, and a reputation among people who go to plays that has not yet been matched by anything a camera has caught.

Where to start with Luke Thompson
There are only five things to choose from here, so this is easy. Bridgerton first, and be honest about why: it is the only credit that gives him real time on screen, and Benedict is the most watchable member of a very large family.
Transatlantic is the better-written show and the more interesting part, a real historical figure inside a wartime drama. Dunkirk is a very big film with a very small part in it, so you will need to look for him. Misbehaviour casts him as a young politician and is the most conventional thing on the list. Kiss Me First is the early curiosity and can wait.
If the screen work is not enough, the honest answer is that his stage work is the reason people rate him, and none of it is here.
