Liza Lapira has been a series regular on more cancelled sitcoms than almost anyone working. Traffic Light, Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23, Super Fun Night, 9JKL: four network comedies, four short runs, and in every one of them she is the component that functions. That is a peculiar career record, and it says more about network scheduling than about her.
Her instrument is speed. She reads a line faster than the scene expects and lands the back half of it flat, so the joke arrives before the audience has finished settling in for it, and she can run the same trick in drama simply by removing the flourish. As Special Agent Michelle Lee on NCIS she plays a procedural role with a constant undercurrent of something withheld. As Ivy on Dollhouse she is the assistant in a building full of people being rewritten weekly, and the performance quietly keeps asking what she makes of that.
The last few years have been the steadiest of her career. Melody Bayani on The Equalizer gave her a long run as a regular who gets real field work rather than a desk, and Inside Out 2 handed her Disgust, taking over from Mindy Kaling, which is by a wide margin the largest audience she has had and one where nobody sees her face. In 2024 she was named Global Pinoy of the Week on GMA Pinoy TV.

Where to start with Liza Lapira
Dollhouse is the most interesting thing she has done, and the show is worth the argument it starts. Ivy is a supporting technician among an ensemble playing a new personality every week, which leaves Lapira the hardest job in the building: staying the same while everyone around her changes, and making that legible.
The Equalizer is the long run and the easiest watch, a broad procedural that plainly likes her, and NCIS is where most people met her first.
The comedies are the pleasure. Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 is the best of the cancelled sitcoms by a distance and holds up far better than its treatment suggested.
On film, 21 is early and small, Crazy, Stupid, Love. gives her one small comic scene played perfectly, and Inside Out 2 is Disgust, which is the widest her voice has ever travelled.
