Lenny Rush

Lenny Rush is an actor, born 2009.

Rush, born in 2009, had a British Academy Television Award before most actors have an agent. It came for Best Male Comedy Performance in Daisy May Cooper's Am I Being Unreasonable?, a series not among the credits listed here, and was followed by a breakthrough award at the 2023 National Comedy Awards and by both the Breakthrough Award and Best Comedy Performance (Male) at the 2023 Royal Television Society Programme Awards.

Comedy of that kind is a strange thing for a teenager to be good at. What those awards recognised depends on timing played against an adult lead and on a complete absence of cuteness, which is the quality separating a child actor with a future from one having a nice year. He had already taken the CBBC drama route with Dodger and The Dumping Ground, neither of which appears in the credits here.

The screen work listed runs to Tim Cratchit in the 2019 A Christmas Carol, a newspaper boy in Enola Holmes 2, Lukas Caulder in Haunting of the Queen Mary, Morris Gibbons in a 2024 Doctor Who, and Frank Harte in A Woman of Substance, due in 2026. The Doctor Who appearance is the widest exposure of those.

Where to start with Lenny Rush

The surprising pick is the right one. A Christmas Carol is a bleak, hostile adaptation with none of the story's usual warmth, and casting a genuinely good young actor as Tim Cratchit is what stops the whole thing collapsing into misery. He is very small in it and very effective.

Doctor Who is the most widely seen credit and a good self-contained hour if you have never watched the show. Enola Holmes 2 is a bit part in a bright Victorian caper worth watching for other reasons. Haunting of the Queen Mary is the horror entry and the weakest film here, though he is not the problem with it. A Woman of Substance is next. The comedy work that won him the awards is not among the credits listed here, which is worth knowing before you press play on any of this.
