By the time Queen of Tears made her face familiar outside Korea, Lee Ju-bin had already spent years doing the job that never gets a magazine cover: the second female lead. She came out of modelling, a common enough route in the Korean industry and usually a slow one, because a model has to prove twice over that she can act.

Her run through the late 2010s and early 2020s is a tour of every genre the industry makes. Be Melodramatic is the sharpest of them, a comedy about three women in their thirties written with unusual attention to how friends actually talk over each other. Find Me in Your Memory and She Would Never Know are workplace romances. Doctor Lawyer is a procedural. Money Heist: Korea put her in a mask inside a large ensemble. Queen of Tears handed her Cheon Da-hye, a part that requires the audience to keep revising its opinion, and she managed it without once tipping her hand.

The Divorce Insurance in 2025 was the first time she carried a series as the lead. On the evidence of the supporting decade behind it, that was overdue.
