Kevin James
Kevin James is an actor, born 1965.
Kevin George Knipfing was born in Mineola in 1965 and started doing stand-up on Long Island in the late eighties. In 1998 he became Doug Heffernan on The King of Queens, a parcel delivery driver in Queens with a sharp wife and an impossible father-in-law, and he played him for nine seasons, earning an Emmy nomination for lead actor in 2006.
The thing consistently undersold about him is that he is a first-rate physical comedian. He is genuinely light on his feet, and his best gags are built on real athletic control at a size that Hollywood mostly wants to use as the entire punchline. Paul Blart works because he plays the mall cop's dignity absolutely straight and lets the body do the comedy. Here Comes the Boom, in which a burned-out biology teacher takes mixed-martial-arts fights to save the school music programme, has the same virtue: he took the hits properly.
The middle stretch of the filmography is a run of ensemble comedies that ask him for the same performance repeatedly, and there are a lot of them. Which makes the outlier worth knowing about. In Becky, from 2020, he plays a shaven-headed white-supremacist convict with no jokes in him at all, and it is far and away the most alarming thing on his resume. He has the range. He has mostly not been asked for it.

Where to start with Kevin James
The King of Queens is still the best case for him: nine seasons of a sitcom that works because Doug is allowed to be genuinely lazy and genuinely likeable at the same time.
In film, Hitch is his sharpest supporting turn, an anxious accountant who cannot dance, and the reaction shots do most of the work. Then Paul Blart: Mall Cop, which is exactly what it looks like and better made than it is given credit for, and Here Comes the Boom for the physical stuff at full commitment.
If you want the swerve, Becky is a horror-adjacent thriller where he plays a man with no charm whatsoever, and it is genuinely unsettling. For younger viewers, Hotel Transylvania and its sequels give him Frankenstein.
