Kentaro Kumagai
Kentaro Kumagai is an actor, born 1994.
Kumagai was born in Saitama, grew up in Okinawa, and entered Japanese animation the way most voice actors do, as furniture. His mid-2010s credits read like a school register: Junior High School Boy C in Charlotte, High School Boy A in Tanaka-kun Is Always Listless, Junior High School Boy B in Scum's Wish. On the film side he was Man 5 in Ride Your Wave and Operator D in a Fate/Grand Order special. He is affiliated with Haikyo.
The break was Theo Cornaro, the young ruler at the centre of Record of Grancrest War, and it exposed the thing he is actually good at: sincerity that never curdles into sap. Kumagai's default register is warm, slightly loud and completely unguarded, which makes him ideal for characters whose enthusiasm is the plot. Laios in Delicious in Dungeon is the purest version, a man so genuinely delighted by the idea of cooking a monster that the joke lands without him ever winking at it. Han Daewi in The God of High School runs the same openness through grief instead of comedy.
What has kept him working is that the warmth survives contact with other genres. He turns up in a football drama (Aoashi), a street-level crime series (Ikebukuro West Gate Park), a run of isekai leads, and in OKITSURA, a comedy set in the prefecture he grew up in.

Where to start with Kentaro Kumagai
Start with Delicious in Dungeon. Laios has to be funny, obsessive and quietly lonely inside the same line, and Kumagai never signals which one he is playing, which is the clearest demonstration of what he does. From there, Record of Grancrest War is the earlier version of the same instinct, a young leader played entirely straight in a series that keeps testing his patience.
For range, The God of High School hands him a fighter carrying something heavy under all the tournament noise, and Aoashi drops him into an ensemble where he is a rival rather than the centre. Tsukigakirei is the detour worth taking, a low-key school romance that gives him almost nothing loud to do and is better for it.
Skip the early filler unless you enjoy spotting him. He is a background classmate in Charlotte and Scum's Wish, one line at a time, and it tells you nothing except how long the climb was.
