Kelly McCreary
Kelly McCreary is an actor, born 1981.
McCreary had already played a doctor before Grey's Anatomy came calling. Emily Owens, M.D. put her in a hospital in 2012, and it did not last. Two years later she turned up at the end of the tenth season of Grey's Anatomy as Maggie Pierce, was made a series regular for the eleventh, and stayed for years.
Maggie is a specific kind of television part: the newly discovered half-sister, dropped into a family drama that had been running for a decade with an entire set of relationships to establish from scratch. What McCreary does with her is play the intelligence straight. Maggie is written as the cleverest person in most rooms and the least comfortable in all of them, and the comedy and the awkwardness come from the same place, which is a harder combination to sustain than it looks.
The rest of the page is early and small: Yvonne in White Collar, Inez in Being Flynn, a turn as Eartha Kitt in Life, the film about photographing James Dean, and voice work as Dot in Harvey Girls Forever. Where to start with Kelly McCreary
There is really only one answer, Grey's Anatomy, so the useful advice is where to enter it: she arrives at the end of the tenth season and becomes a regular in the eleventh, which is a far better starting point than the beginning of a series that had already run for years before she appeared. Grey's Anatomy: B-Team is the short spin-off for anyone already deep in it.
For the earlier work, Emily Owens, M.D. is the interesting near-miss, a hospital show with a lighter tone that never got the run it wanted. Being Flynn and Life are the two proper films, the second handing her Eartha Kitt in a story about photographing a young movie star. White Collar and Harvey Girls Forever! fill in the corners.
