Katsuyuki Konishi
Katsuyuki Konishi is an actor, born 1973.
Katsuyuki Konishi has one of the most immediately identifiable voices in Japanese animation: low, loud, and built for men who believe their own speeches. Born in Wakayama in 1973 and affiliated with Ken Production, he made his debut as Volfogg in GaoGaiGar and has worked more or less continuously since.
The signature is the hot-blooded idiot with genuine conviction. Kamina in Gurren Lagann is the definitive case, a character whose entire function is to shout other people into believing in themselves, delivered without a trace of embarrassment, which is the only way that role can work. Laxus Dreyar in Fairy Tail, Tank-Top Master in One-Punch Man, Fuegoleon Vermillion in Black Clover and Tengen Uzui in Demon Slayer are all variations on it: large men, large voices, and a self-regard the script is usually laughing at.
The range shows when he stops shouting. The Boss in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is quiet, precise and thoroughly unpleasant. Koutarou Amon in Tokyo Ghoul is a decent man being ground down by his own job. Shuhei Hisagi in Bleach is a straight man in a cast of eccentrics, and he carried Phoenix Ikki through the Saint Seiya Hades chapters across most of the 2000s. Beyond those he turns up in almost every ensemble going, from Kill la Kill and Promare to Hellsing, Blue Lock and The Apothecary Diaries, which is what a thirty-year career in this industry actually looks like.

Where to start with Katsuyuki Konishi
Gurren Lagann is the only correct starting point. Kamina is the role the rest of the career is measured against, and the first eight episodes are the strongest argument anyone has made for shouting as an acting technique.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is the mainstream entry: Tengen Uzui arrives loud and ridiculous, and Konishi finds the discipline underneath him. One-Punch Man uses the same voice as a punchline, and Fairy Tail gives it several hundred episodes to fill.
For the other register, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has him playing a villain almost entirely in whispers, and Tokyo Ghoul hands him the most human part he has had. Kill la Kill and Promare are where to go to hear what Studio Trigger does with him at full volume.
The loud heroes
The mode he is famous for. Kamina in Gurren Lagann is a performance of almost nothing but conviction and volume, and the show would not work at all without it. Laxus in Fairy Tail is the same energy given a much longer run.
The villains and the restrained roles
Diavolo in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is the best known of these, and it works because he plays paranoia rather than menace. Hellsing and Kill la Kill are the earlier examples of the same restraint applied to very different shows.
The Demon Slayer films and the current run
Tengen Uzui arrives late in Demon Slayer and immediately becomes the most entertaining thing in it. The films are where the animation budget shows, and Mugen Train is the highest-grossing Japanese film ever made.
