Josh Holloway is an actor, born 1969.
Modelling paid the rent first. Josh Holloway was born in San Jose, raised in Georgia and worked as a runway and print model before acting, which is a common enough route and usually a bad sign. In his case it produced a run of small horror and thriller parts, Sabretooth and Cold Heart among them, and then Lost in 2004.
Sawyer is the whole career and there is no point being coy about it. The role asked for someone who could be charming and completely untrustworthy in the same line reading, and Holloway found a specific southern drawl-and-smirk combination that made the audience like a character who was behaving badly on purpose. Six years of that, from 2004 to 2010, plus a Saturn Award for television acting.
Everything since has been an attempt to find the same fit. Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol gave him a Hollywood credit, Intelligence and Paranoia did not stick, and Colony from 2016 to 2018 came closest, casting him inside an occupation story and letting the moral discomfort do the work Sawyer's charm used to. He recurred in the third and fourth seasons of Yellowstone as Roarke, and Duster in 2025 gave him a lead built specifically around the persona, in a period crime series that wants exactly what he does. He is an ensemble actor who works best on a long leash, and the good roles are the ones that give him one.

Where to start with Josh Holloway
Lost is unavoidable and correct. Sawyer is the best-written part he has had and the show gives him six years of material, so if the goal is to understand why he has been a leading man for twenty years, there is nowhere else to look.
Colony is the next stop and the most underrated thing in his catalogue: a science fiction premise used mainly as an excuse for a compromised father to make ugly choices. Duster is the recent one built entirely around what he does well.
Yellowstone is the highest-profile guest work, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol is the biggest film he has been in, and Sabotage and Intelligence are for people who have run out of the good stuff.
