Born in Buenos Aires in 1986 and known on record as Dumbfoundead, Jonnie Park made his name in the Los Angeles battle-rap circuit of the 2000s, where the job is to compose under hostile conditions in front of a crowd waiting for you to fail. Few actors get that kind of performance training, and it shows in his timing on screen.
Acting arrived as a second career and mostly in supporting parts. He turned up as Toshiba in the 2012 comedy Detention, then found the role that used him properly: Prospek in Bodied (2018), a film about battle rap that needed people who could actually do it. Where to start with Jonnie Park
Bodied first, and it is not close. The film is set inside the battle-rap world he came out of, so his lines land with the rhythm of someone who has genuinely had to think of the next bar while being insulted, and the character sits at the edge of the story where he is most useful.
After that, split by mood. Raya and the Last Dragon is the polished mainstream credit and a decent showcase for how light his voice is. Quiz Lady and Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens are the comedy lane, small parts played straight rather than mugged. Detention is the early oddity, a hyperactive teen horror comedy that will either delight or exhaust you.
