John Hasler

John Hasler is an actor, born 1974.

Staying with one children's series from boyhood into adolescence is rare, and John Hasler managed it: he played T-Shirt in T-Bag from 1985 to 1992, the only cast member to last the show's entire run, arriving as a young boy and leaving as a teenager.

The adult career went into voice booths. He was Jim Hawkins in The Legends of Treasure Island, James in Fireman Sam, Foz in Go Jetters, and, from 2015 to 2021, Thomas himself in the UK dub of Thomas & Friends. That last job carried him through the franchise's feature run, four films between 2015 and 2018, which is a lot of miles for a very small engine.

There is a credit for additional voices in Brave (2012) as well, the sort of line that turns up on most working British voice actors' lists. The through-line is unglamorous and quite specific: three decades of being a voice British children hear on a weekday afternoon without ever learning the name attached to it.

Where to start with John Hasler

Thomas & Friends is the obvious front door, though the useful thing to know is that Hasler took the title role in the UK dub only from 2015, so the episodes to look for are the recent ones. The features are the better showcase: Thomas & Friends: Journey Beyond Sodor and Thomas & Friends: The Great Race give him more to play than a five-minute episode ever does.

For range, The Legends of Treasure Island casts him as Jim Hawkins in a stranger and funnier show than its premise suggests, and Go Jetters is the most purely charming thing on the list. Fireman Sam rounds it out. T-Bag, where the whole thing began, is not among the credits listed here.
