Jin

Kim Seok-jin, who records as Jin, is a singer first, and everything on this page is downstream of that. Born in Anyang in 1992, he came to prominence as a member of BTS, released solo tracks inside the group's records with "Awake" in 2016, "Epiphany" in 2018 and "Moon" in 2020, put out an independent single called "Tonight" in 2019, and made his official solo debut in October 2022 with "The Astronaut".

His filmography is therefore not a filmography in the ordinary sense. There are no characters in it. Every credit is Self: concert films, tour documentaries, variety series, and the hybrid form K-pop effectively invented, in which a group's own cameras follow them through a tour and the result is then sold to cinemas.

That form is more interesting than outsiders assume. The concert pictures are straightforward records of a stage show, and they stand or fall on the camera work. The documentaries around them are stranger, because they are produced from inside the same organisation that manages the artists, which makes their moments of exhaustion and doubt a very particular kind of authored vulnerability. Watch several in sequence and you can see the machine working out how much strain it is prepared to show.

The variety material is looser and more revealing about him specifically, since a format built on games and mild humiliation leaves far less room for management than a documentary does.
