Jack L. Chalker
Jack L. Chalker is an author.
Jack L. Chalker was an American science fiction writer who came to full-time fiction late: he taught history in Baltimore City Schools for twelve years and did not leave the classroom until 1978. He was a fixture of organised fandom well before that, a member of the Washington Science Fiction Association and one of the people involved in founding the Baltimore Science Fiction Society. His novels are built around transformation, bodies and identities rewritten by machines, gods or planetary systems, and he wrote them in long series: the Well World books, the Soul Rider and Flux and Anchor cycles, the Dancing Gods fantasies. Prolific, pulpy, never boring about premises.

Where to start with Jack L. Chalker
Midnight at the Well of Souls is the door in, an inquiry that turns into a tour of a planet divided into hundreds of engineered biospheres, and it is still his best premise. Carry on with Exiles at the Well of Souls and Quest for the Well of Souls if it takes. Spirits of Flux and Anchor (Soul Rider Series, Book 1) is the other big cycle. The River of Dancing Gods is the comic fantasy, cheerfully silly.
