Hugh Howey

Hugh Howey is an author.

Hugh Howey is an American writer best known for the Silo series, which he began publishing himself through Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing. Wool started as a single self released story in 2011, sold on word of mouth, and grew into a sequence with Shift and Dust before being adapted for television. Howey went on to sign distribution deals with large publishers around the world while keeping the ebook rights and direct control of his own electronic publishing, an arrangement that made him a reference point in every argument about self publishing. He has also written the Sand books and the Molly Fyde series.

Where to start with Hugh Howey

Start with Wool, which works as a standalone and is the tightest thing he has written; the world gets bigger later, the prose does not. Shift is the prequel and the more interesting book about how the situation came about, and Dust closes it out. Sand is the better standalone, a desert novel about diving through sand. Beacon 23 is the short, strange one.
