Hemky Madera

Hemky Madera is an actor, born 1977.

Madera began on Dominican television, taking the lead in the mini-series En La Olla and Trio en Alta Mar for the director Alfonso Rodriguez, before building an American career out of parts that tend to be smaller than his presence.

The best of that career is Pote Galvez on Queen of the South, which ran from 2016 and gave him the rarest thing available to a character actor: a supporting role with an interior life, sustained across years, where loyalty is the whole performance rather than a plot function. Nothing else on this list gives him that much space, and it is the reason to seek him out.

Most viewers, though, know him as Mister Delmar in Spider-Man: Homecoming, a part small enough to be a cameo and popular enough that he came back for it in the follow-up short Peter's To-Do List. That is a fair image of how the film side has gone: Chorizo in Rango, Tito in The Happytime Murders, Colonel Ortiz in Play Dirty, and Commander Baro in The Mandalorian and Grogu in 2026.

On television he has been unusually good at the comic-sinister register, the Brujo on Ash vs Evil Dead, Ignacio Morero on Weeds, Pedro Uribe on Brockmire, and the older Memo on Acapulco. He works a great deal, mostly in support, and he raises the average of whatever he is in.

Where to start with Hemky Madera

Go straight to Queen of the South. Pote Galvez is the role his whole career has been auditioning for, and the show gives him seasons to build it rather than scenes.

If you want the version everyone has already seen, Spider-Man: Homecoming is two short appearances that somehow became one of the more beloved bits of the film, and Peter's To-Do List exists purely because of it.

For comedy, Brockmire and Acapulco are the two to pick, the first profane, the second built on affection. Ash vs Evil Dead is the most fun he has been given in horror, playing the Brujo, and Weeds is the early credit that shows the type arriving fully formed. Rango is a voice cameo worth catching.
